Week 5 Fantasy Trade Update: Injuries and Backfield Changes
Achane is out for 2026, Emanuel Wilson has an expanded Seattle role, and new injuries change Week 5 trade decisions after Sunday and Monday night.
Updated October 6, 2026, after Monday Night Football. The biggest change since September 28 is that De'Von Achane's knee injury is now a confirmed season-ending ACL tear. Seattle also lost Jadarian Price to injured reserve, and Emanuel Wilson's Week 4 workload provides a concrete reason to revisit his value. New injuries to Lamar Jackson, Tyquan Thornton, Ja'Marr Chase and Saquon Barkley create different roster problems; they should not receive the same trade discount.
Achane: remove 2026 scoring from the offer
Miami placed Achane on injured reserve on September 28. The NFL's injury report confirms a torn ACL and a season-ending absence; separate broadcaster coverage reports the same diagnosis.
For ordinary redraft, an Achane trade cannot solve a remaining-season lineup need. In dynasty, a contender can exchange future value for current points, but should compare several offers before accepting a deep discount. A rebuilding buyer can afford to wait if the price accounts for recovery risk. See the revised Achane dynasty analysis.
Ollie Gordon and Jaylen Wright are backfield names to evaluate. Achane's absence alone does not tell you which player owns receiving work, goal-line carries, or the largest weekly workload. Pay for the role Miami demonstrates rather than automatically buying a full replacement for Achane.
Seattle: Price's IR move and Wilson's actual workload
Seattle placed Price on IR on October 3 with a chest injury, also covered by Yahoo Sports. The IR designation requires at least four missed games; it does not specify his eventual return date.
In Sunday's win over the Chargers, Wilson carried 21 times for 81 yards and caught three passes for 39 yards, scoring once each as a runner and receiver. Those totals appear in the Seahawks' recap of his performance and AP's game report.
Wilson merits a waiver claim or a short-term trade inquiry because he has already handled the work. Buyers should leave room for the backfield to change: Zach Charbonnet has been designated to return to practice. Field Level Media also reported the practice-window move. Opening that window is not the same as activation. Wilson's current opportunity is useful without requiring a season-long monopoly.
New Orleans: Etienne to IR, without a fixed return date
The Saints placed Travis Etienne Jr. on injured reserve on October 1. Field Level Media reports a hamstring injury and the minimum four-game absence. Four missed games is a roster-rule minimum, not a recovery promise.
A contender needs an active replacement. Alvin Kamara, Kendre Miller and CJ Donaldson are backfield options to assess through usage. Avoid pricing any one of them as though Etienne's entire workload must move to him.
Jackson and Thornton need different replacement plans
Jackson's ankle injury leaves his next start unresolved, so securing quarterback cover is the first step. Huntley replaced him, but that appearance does not guarantee the next start. Our Lamar Jackson injury analysis explains how that changes one-QB and superflex decisions.
Thornton's reported 12–16-week absence is a longer roster commitment. A redraft manager with no spare IR slot can reasonably prioritize an active receiver. A deep dynasty bench can absorb the wait. Read the Thornton drop-or-stash analysis before tying up a bench spot.
Chase and Barkley: confirmed exits, no fixed comeback date
Ja'Marr Chase left Cincinnati's game with a concussion, confirmed in the Bengals' postgame coverage and the NFL roundup. His return depends on the subsequent protocol and team status. Do not turn an in-game exit into a guaranteed absence of a particular length.
Saquon Barkley left Philadelphia's game with a hamstring injury. The Eagles' recap and AP's report record the injury. AP also reports that replacement Tank Bigsby needed assistance leaving the field. Check the whole backfield's availability before paying for an assumed healthy substitute.
Last week's injuries: Nacua returned; Hall and Jefferson missed Week 4
Puka Nacua played against Philadelphia, documented by the Rams' game recap and the AP report. The earlier missed-game discount should now be reassessed using his playing role.
Breece Hall was inactive against Chicago; Field Level Media reports the quad injury and week-to-week assessment. Justin Jefferson was inactive against Miami, and AP's October 5 Vikings report discusses his ongoing recovery. Those Week 4 absences do not settle Week 5.
Carolina's inactive list and Panthers Wire coverage also confirm Jalen Coker missed the Detroit game. A contract extension cannot substitute for weekly availability.
Chicago: Monangai's workload deserves a fresh look
Kyle Monangai had 30 carries for 146 yards and two touchdowns against the Jets, according to the Bears' October 5 review and AP's game report. He also suffered a thumb injury, described as day-to-day in the team update and subsequent AP coverage.
The volume supports a trade inquiry, but check his health before expecting the next start. Buyers should value the carries more than a repeat of the two-touchdown finish and leave room for game scripts to change.
Monday night: separate Atlanta's volume from the touchdowns
Bijan Robinson ran for 145 yards and two touchdowns, while Brian Robinson Jr. scored three rushing touchdowns on 14 carries in Atlanta's win over New Orleans. The Saints' game recap and FOX 5 Atlanta's box-score coverage record the performance.
Brian's involvement deserves attention in deeper formats, but three touchdowns are a poor baseline for a trade offer. Bijan's productive game and Brian's scoring can coexist. Evaluate their opportunities over multiple games before assigning a new permanent ranking.
Set a budget for replacement points
Start with the roster hole: one uncertain quarterback start, several missed games at running back, or a receiver stash that may contribute little this season. Then compare the waiver alternative with the price of a trade. A useful temporary starter can be worth acquiring without becoming a premium dynasty asset.
