Week 8 Trade Board: Buckner, Nelson, and the Skill Players They Reprice
Indianapolis traded DeForest Buckner to San Francisco and Quenton Nelson to Seattle on October 27. How those deals reprice the Colts' run game, Seattle's skill players, and a 49ers defense that does not play in Week 8.
Tuesday's confirmed deals are the Week 8 price change
The Colts made two trades on Tuesday, October 27. Both are official. Neither deal includes Jonathan Taylor.
Indianapolis sent defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the 49ers for a 2027 fourth-round pick. The Colts' announcement, the club's transaction log, NFL.com, and the Associated Press all have that compensation. Earlier the same day, the Colts sent guard Quenton Nelson to the Seahawks for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick. That return is in the Colts' Nelson announcement, the same transaction log, NFL.com, and the AP recap of both deals.
Buckner is going back to the team that drafted him seventh overall in 2016. The Colts acquired him for a first-round pick in 2020. He is 32. NFL.com reported that he is in the final season of a two-year, $46 million contract, and that San Francisco is 6-1. The Colts said he returned from season-ending neck surgery on New Year's Eve 2025 and has four sacks in seven games this season. NFL.com's line for those seven starts is 31 tackles and four sacks. CBS Sports has the same tackle and sack totals.
Nelson was the sixth overall pick in 2018. The Colts said he has started 136 games, made the Pro Bowl in each of his first eight seasons, and was a first-team All-Pro from 2018 through 2020. NFL.com described the Seattle deal as pending a physical and described Nelson, 30, as playing on an expiring contract. The clubs have already announced the trade. Seattle waived guard Christian Haynes to clear a roster spot. Haynes, a 2024 third-round pick, had appeared in 31 games, with five starts this season. A physical that is still outstanding is a reason Nelson might not play Monday. It is not a reason to treat the trade as a rumor.
Jonathan Taylor's rumor, his contract, and the November 10 deadline are in the October 26 Taylor article. CeeDee Lamb, Javonte Williams, and Saquon Barkley are in the Monday night Cowboys-Eagles trade board. Use the prices below when an offer moved because Buckner or Nelson changed teams.
DeForest Buckner: hold him in IDP, and do not stream San Francisco in Week 8
Buckner is not a skill-player add. He matters in IDP, and the 49ers matter as a team defense only after their bye.
He cannot score a Week 8 fantasy point for a 49ers defense or for an IDP roster. San Francisco's bye is Sunday, November 1. The 49ers' schedule release puts the next two games at home against the Raiders on November 8 and at Dallas on November 15. Those are the first weeks he can matter.
NFL.com framed the fit as help for a front that has been short of bodies. Nick Bosa has played two games. Rookie Romello Height, 2025 first-rounder Mykel Williams, and rookie Gracen Halton have each missed time. Keion White leads that group with 3.5 sacks in the same report. One tackle does not turn that description into a set-and-forget defense. It does put San Francisco on the stream list for Week 9 and Week 10, after the bye, and it takes Buckner off the list of tackles opponents have to block when they face Indianapolis.
Redraft, IDP: hold, and start him at defensive tackle in Week 9 if your league scores the position. Week 8 is a bye. Do not drop him to chase a tackle who plays Sunday. Do not trade a skill player to get him.
Redraft, team defense: do not stream the 49ers in Week 8. They are not playing. Week 9 against the Raiders is the first spot to consider them, with Week 10 at Dallas the next one. Pay a normal stream price. Do not spend a starter to "get ahead" of a defense that still has the injury list NFL.com described.
Dynasty: hold in IDP for the rest of 2026. He is 32 and in the final year of his deal. That is a contender's tackle, not a young player you buy with a pick. In a league that does not score defensive players, he is not a chip at all.
Indianapolis is the other side of the same trade. Buckner started every game and produced four sacks. The Colts have not posted a new defensive line. Opposing skill players are simply no longer facing him. That is a softer interior for the rest of the season than the one that played the first seven games. It is not a reason to trade for a Jacksonville passer or receiver this week. Start the Jaguars you were already going to start when the Colts visit on November 1. Leave the extra bump out of the offer.
Quenton Nelson: the Colts have not named the new left guard
Nelson is not a fantasy roster spot. The players who can change price are the ones who run and throw behind him, and the ones who just lost him.
The Colts said 2026 fourth-round pick Jalen Farmer could get a look at left guard. They have not named a starter. Sporting News treats Farmer as the player who will line up next to left tackle Bernhard Raimann, and it expects Jonathan Taylor's rushing efficiency to drop if Taylor stays. That is a writer's projection. It is not a depth chart, and it is not a stat from a game Nelson has already missed. The Colts visit Jacksonville on November 1 with whatever line they settle on this week.
Redraft: there is nothing to buy or sell at the guard position. The skill-player price is Taylor's, in the next section, and the Seahawks' backs and quarterback after that.
Dynasty: there is still nothing to roster at guard. A final-year guard can help a contender's 2026 offense. He is not a dynasty asset in a skill-player league. Do not add a pick to a Seattle package because Nelson might sign an extension later. NFL.com noted that Seattle has extended in-season rentals before. "Has done it before" is not a contract.
Jonathan Taylor was not in either trade
Taylor was not in either Tuesday trade. NFL.com listed him, Grover Stewart, and Josh Downs among names that have been mentioned as candidates, and wrote that the selling may not be finished. Sporting News argued that moving Nelson makes a Taylor deal more feasible if the club decides his production is about to fall. Both of those are analysis. The deadline is still 4:00 p.m. New York time on November 10, and no Taylor agreement has been reported.
His contract, the clubs linked to him, and the broader hold-or-sell case are in the October 26 Jonathan Taylor article. What changed for his price on Tuesday is the line in front of him.
Redraft: hold. Nelson's exit is a real change to the interior if Taylor is still a Colt on Sunday. It is a reason to listen when the return is a back or receiver you would start the rest of the way, plus extra. It is not a reason to accept a flex for a lead back because a guard was traded. It is also not a reason to pay a premium for a landing spot that has not been announced. If you buy him this week, you own him whether he stays with Daniel Jones or moves.
Dynasty: hold. A worse 2026 line does not erase the seasons after this one. Sell only when the package replaces both the starts you need now and the years you are giving up. Decline the offer that is only a reaction to 2-5 and to two other players changing teams.
Seth McGowan is the stash if Taylor is traded
McGowan is the Colts back who would need a larger job if Taylor were moved. He is not that back yet.
CBS Sports has his Week 7 line at a season-high 11 carries for 46 yards and one catch for 2 yards, on a season-high 34 percent of the snaps. CBS lists the season line at 34 carries for 134 yards and four catches for 12 yards on five targets. NFL.com's Week 8 wire and NBC Sports also list him, for the same reason: Taylor has been in the rumor conversation, and McGowan is the next back on the roster. Tuesday's trades make that conversation louder. They do not make the trade.
Redraft: add him if you own Taylor or if a bench spot is free. Spend a few dollars of a $100 FAAB budget, or a waiver priority you can spare. That is the same small contingency bid as in the October 26 Jonathan Taylor article. A bid built for a clear starter assumes a job the Colts have not opened. Do not start him at Jacksonville while Taylor is on the roster.
Dynasty: he is a taxi or bench flier tied to one roster outcome. Do not send a pick to get ahead of a rumor.
Seattle's skill players get a mild plus only after Nelson plays
The Seahawks are the defending champions, and they just beat the Chiefs 20-3. Emanuel Wilson's log shows 24 carries for 100 yards and a touchdown, plus one catch for 15 yards. The long run was 21. The regular-season results on that log put Seattle at 4-3. Sam Darnold completed 20 of 28 passes for 257 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, and he added 17 rushing yards. Seahawks.com said the line did not allow a sack, after allowing five in Week 6.
That game did not include Nelson. It also did not include Zach Charbonnet, who was ruled out while he works back from a torn ACL. Mike Macdonald told Seahawks.com that Charbonnet will practice fully and has a chance to debut Monday against the Bears, and that rookie Jadarian Price, eligible off injured reserve after a chest injury, will practice too. Macdonald's answer on whether they play was that both could play, neither could play, or either one could play. Wilson is the back who just handled the game. He is not yet the back who has to split it.
The guard upgrade is real on paper. NFL.com expects Nelson to solidify the front and help a run game that could include Charbonnet and Price, and it expects him at left guard, with Grey Zabel sliding to the right and Anthony Bradford as the top backup. Seattle has not posted that lineup. Charles Cross is a separate question on the edge. Macdonald told the team site Monday that Cross has an ankle, that the timeline is day to day, and that a report about missed time did not come from the club. Week 8 is Monday night, November 2, at home against Chicago, on the Seahawks' schedule. A guard acquired Tuesday, with a physical still pending, is not a Monday head start.
Emanuel Wilson, redraft: hold. Buy him only if the other manager is still pricing the weeks before the 24-carry night. Do not pay a workhorse premium that assumes Nelson is already in the lineup and Charbonnet stays on the sideline. Sell only when the return is a back you would start Monday even if Wilson's carries land closer to a split than to 24.
Emanuel Wilson, dynasty: hold. One Chiefs game and a guard who has not played a Seattle snap do not reset the career. A contender can listen when the return is a back who starts the rest of 2026 plus a future piece. A rebuilder should not move him because an offensive lineman might help for half a season.
Zach Charbonnet, redraft: hold if you have him. Do not buy a debut. Macdonald has not assigned Monday's carries. Nelson does not hand Charbonnet a job. Dynasty: hold. The ACL timeline is the value question. A rental guard is a small 2026 plus after Charbonnet is actually playing, not a reason to spend a pick this week.
Sam Darnold, redraft: hold in superflex. The Week 7 protection was already clean, and Zabel's comment in the team recap was that Darnold is at his best when the line keeps him upright. Nelson can extend that, once he is installed and once Cross's ankle is known. He is not a reason to send a running back for the Monday start against Chicago. In a one-quarterback league, Darnold is a stream or a hold. He is not a trade chip you acquire because Nelson changed teams and has not yet played a Seattle snap. Dynasty: hold. The quarterback was already the starter. A final-year guard does not change the seasons after 2026.
Seahawks.com credited Jaxon Smith-Njigba with 150 receiving yards and a touchdown in that same Chiefs game. That line is already a star price. This trade does not add a new one. His contract and dynasty price are in the Jaxon Smith-Njigba extension article.
Other Week 8 adds and buys
The adds below are names on at least two of the NFL.com, CBS, and NBC Sports Week 8 wires. McGowan is the one whose role could change because of Tuesday's trades. The others are adds those wires rank when a roster hole has nothing to do with Indianapolis. The buys are the overlap between the FantasyLife and PFN lists, plus the names that appear on only one of them.
Adds on the NFL.com and CBS wires:
- KC Concepcion. NFL.com and CBS both put him at the top after eight catches for 129 yards against the Titans. CBS also has 10 targets. He is a receiver add if you need one. Tuesday's trades do not change his price.
- Omar Cooper Jr. NFL.com, CBS, and NBC Sports still have him, after 11 catches for 218 yards and two touchdowns over his last two games in the NFL.com and CBS counts. Keep the bid from the October 26 Jonathan Taylor article. Seeing his name again is not a reason to bid more.
- Chigoziem Okonkwo. NFL.com ranks him third on its overall Week 8 wire. CBS has 11 catches for 129 yards on 13 targets over his last two games, with Terry McLaurin out for the season. Add him if you need a tight end. McLaurin's knee injury and the fantasy fallout are in the Terry McLaurin injury article.
- Caleb Douglas. NFL.com, CBS, and NBC Sports all list the Dolphins rookie. CBS and NBC Sports have two catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns on three targets. NFL.com also has the two touchdowns on three targets. That is a big-play dart, not a receiver you acquire with a starter.
- Seth McGowan. His Week 7 line and the contingency bid are in the section above. He is the only add on this list whose job could change because of what Indianapolis did Tuesday, and only if Taylor is actually traded.
Buys, labeled by who wrote them:
- Brock Purdy is on both the FantasyLife and PFN buy lists. PFN's Atlanta line is 288 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, and PFN is buying the bye-week discount. The next two games are the Raiders and the Cowboys, which is the same window as the 49ers' defense stream. Buckner does not make Purdy a better quarterback. The buy is the bye and the schedule. Pay a quarterback price you already believed. Do not add extra because a tackle arrived during the off week.
- Carnell Tate is the other name on both lists. Both cite five catches for 69 yards on seven targets against Cleveland. PFN also has the season line at 34 catches for 413 yards. He is a receiver buy in a bad offense, and these Colts trades do not change his price.
- Luther Burden and DJ Moore are FantasyLife buys, not PFN's. Burden plays Monday in Seattle, the same game where Nelson could debut. FantasyLife's case is the route share after Cole Kmet's season-ending injury. Buy the receiver if the offer is cheap. Do not pay as if Nelson's arrival changes Chicago's targets. Moore is FantasyLife's other buy, and CBS still lists his shoulder as a Week 8 question. Take the discount only if the other manager is treating that shoulder as a possible absence, and only if your roster can wait.
- Jordan Mason is PFN's running-back buy, not FantasyLife's. PFN's line is 15 carries for 68 yards in his return from injured reserve, with Aaron Jones day to day after a knee issue. That game was the one Taylor played in. It is not a new Colts fact. The carry line is also in the October 26 Jonathan Taylor article. Use PFN's buy if the price is still a committee price. Do not fold Mason into a Taylor package.
What to do before Sunday
Run the offer through your league's scoring in the trade analyzer after you know which of these you are holding. The labels below are a frame for a 12-team redraft league and for dynasty. They are not stat projections. For a one-year price against a multi-year price, the dynasty trade guide is the longer checklist. November 10 is the NFL deadline. Your league's deadline is a separate date. Confirm it with the fantasy trade-deadline guide.
- Sit Buckner and the 49ers' defense in Week 8. In IDP, plan to start him in Week 9. On the waiver wire, treat San Francisco as a stream for the Raiders and then Dallas, not as a defense you trade for.
- Hold Taylor unless the return starts for you the rest of the way, plus extra. If you shop the rumor, use the price in the October 26 Jonathan Taylor article. Nelson leaving does not set his destination.
- Stash McGowan at a contingency price if you own Taylor or have an open bench spot. Do not start him this week.
- Hold Wilson. Buy the old price if it is still available. Do not pay Monday's carries as if Nelson and a healthy Charbonnet are already in the snap counts.
- Hold Darnold in superflex. Do not trade a skill starter for a guard who has not played a Seattle snap.
- Use the buy and waiver names above only for the hole you actually have. Keep Cooper's bid at the level in the October 26 article. Purdy's buy is the bye, not Buckner.
| Player | Redraft into Week 8 | Dynasty |
|---|---|---|
| DeForest Buckner | IDP hold. Bye, so do not start him. Team defense: stream candidate in Weeks 9 and 10 only. | IDP hold for 2026. Age 32 and a final-year deal. Not a skill-player chip. |
| Jonathan Taylor | Hold. Nelson is a line change, not a destination. Use the October 26 article for the rumor price. | Hold. Decline a sale that only reacts to the other two trades. |
| Seth McGowan | Small stash. Not a Week 8 start while Taylor is on the roster. | Taxi flier. Not a pick. |
| Emanuel Wilson | Hold. Buy the pre-Chiefs price. Do not pay a workhorse premium for a guard who is not installed. | Hold. |
| Zach Charbonnet | Hold if rostered. Do not buy an unassigned Monday debut. | Hold. The ACL timeline still governs. |
| Sam Darnold | Superflex hold. Not a back-for-quarterback deal off the Nelson trade. | Hold. |
| Brock Purdy | Buy only at the bye-week quarterback price PFN and FantasyLife are using. Buckner is not an extra. | Hold unless the offer was already fair without the bye. |
| Carnell Tate | Buy if the cost is a flex you can spare. The 5-for-69 line is the shared box score. | A young receiver hold-or-buy. Not part of the Colts deals. |
| KC Concepcion, Okonkwo, Douglas | Adds if the position is the hole. Keep them behind a starter you trust. | Waiver stashes, not picks. |
| Omar Cooper Jr. | Keep the October 26 bid. Do not raise it because he is listed again. | Same bid guidance as that article. |
